Inverlochy Castle Hotel is truly a gem in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. The combination of its historic charm, luxurious accommodations, and breathtaking surroundings creates a magical experience. The individually designed rooms are both elegant and comfortable, with stunning views of the gardens, lochs, and the iconic Ben Nevis.
The dining experience, overseen by a renowned chef, is unforgettable, with creative menus showcasing local ingredients in a setting that feels regal. The staff’s attention to detail and warm hospitality add to the overall sense of relaxation and indulgence. Whether you’re looking for a romantic getaway or a tranquil retreat, Inverlochy Castle Hotel offers a perfect balance of elegance, history, and natural beauty.

Visited over Xmas after staying at the Fife arms for 3 nights . See Fife Arms review separately .
Where the Fife arms was really warm , relaxed and welcoming , Inverlochy felt austere in comparison . The food at Inverlochy is the draw which is much better than Fife . The service at Inverlochy is good too and is like to mention David .
Breakfast options are plentiful and varied
The negatives as follows
1. We stayed in the new walled garden rooms, which the bathroom under floor heating was not working nor was the light dimmer so it was super bright in there always .
2. Tiny plastic bottles of bath amenities although branded felt a bit like a Travelodge .
3. No free minbar / snacks or whisky like at Fife
4 . No option to dine when you like and dinner is at set hours . Whilst the food is great , you won’t be coming away from the table till 2200 . Meals tend to be no choice 4-5 course extravaganzas which may not be to Everyone’s taste
5. The coffee is the worst I have drank anywhere . They use a semi automatic machine and it clearly needs adjusting as the coffee is coming out over roasted / burnt . Ido hope they fix this . Even the filter coffee was just way too strong
6. Someone turned up for a turndown Service at 2200 one night .
The new walled garden rooms really could have been an opportunity to give a modern twist to the rest of the castle , I think it’s a missed opportunity . Also the sound proofing between the lower and upper rooms is non existent .
For snooker enthusiasts, there is a lovely billiard room .
UPDATE : have just see a tripadvisor review from 2 months ago which highlighted the same problems with the room and it is disappointing that they have not remedied these items > David seemed to act as if they were new . This is really poor given how much this trio cost us .
Disappointingly , would not recommend or return

Visited for afternoon tea being recommended by friends and family who have stayed. We had similar reaction to them, albeit without experience of the bedrooms.
Fantastic service, warm ambiance in a historic setting of great beauty but somewhat living off past glories, inside and out signs of update/modernisation needed.
Lovely food for tea and my pot of Marsala chai was the best I’ve ever had. Our thanks to the team.

We had the pleasure of enjoying afternoon tea last weekend, although we unfortunately ran into some heavy traffic on the way. Despite the delay, when I called to inform them, the staff were incredibly understanding and accommodating. They reassured us and kindly held everything for us until we arrived, which was such a relief.
Once we finally made it, we were treated to an absolutely delightful experience. The teas and treats were not only beautifully presented but also delicious—easily some of my favorites! Each bite was better than the last, and the tea was brewed to perfection.
The staff were wonderful throughout our visit. They were polite, friendly, and went out of their way to make sure we were comfortable and well taken care of. Their kindness really added to the experience.
As for the atmosphere, it was nothing short of breathtaking. The interior was stunning, with beautiful decor and a warm, inviting vibe that made it a perfect spot to relax and enjoy the afternoon. The view from our table was amazing, adding to the charm of the place.
All in all, it was an absolutely gorgeous venue, and I can’t recommend it enough for anyone looking for a memorable afternoon tea experience!

This was a tough one - the Castle is most impressive. The sitting areas are great, comfortable and the wait staff is very accommodating. But upon check in to our suite, Roux Suite, we had the following - the fancy mirror TV did not work. It was necessary to hold the remote up underneath the TV on the wall to try and get it to work. One of the sinks did not function as the plunger was stuck and would not go up/down. It seemed as if the switches for the floor heat and towel bar heaters were reversed. They were also inoperable upon check in. Also, the set up of the room safe malfunctioned while initiating which caused an alarm to go off and someone had to come to reset the safe. Also, the rheostat for the bathroom lights did not dim even though it was identical to the room lights one which did. That meant we had to keep the bathroom lights on all night in order to be able to see when waking up to pee. So, a broken fuse was replaced for the towel rack warmers , but then the thermostat did not work so that every time we came back to the room, the room temp was up to 75 degrees! They did try to fix IR repeater for the TV with no success and I told them to just forget about the sink plunger - which is ashame because all the had to be done was a tad loosening of the tension nut underneath and a great amount of water was wasted while shaving. I tried by hand , but it was so tight it wouldn't budge. Also, there was a fire alarm test which we didnt know about ahead of time which scared the bejesus out of us when it went off - we thought there was a fire somewhere in our room caused by the overheating bathroom heaters..... Their wait staff is great and the piano player very nice. The hours for the dinner service are a bit odd as they have a regular dinner service ( no jacket required) that ends at 6pm I believe to be followed by another sitting for a jackets required dining. As we did not have a jacket and quite frankly dont remember being told we'd need one and 5-6pm is too early for dinner for us, we were a bit out of luck on the dining. They do offer loaner jackets, but im not for using other peoples clothes. If they suggest a walk to their pub dining down the road, SKIP IT. It's nice that it's all you can eat, but the food is lousy AND expensive. All you can eat salad, fatty skimpy yucky tasting beef and unlimited french fries. For 2 people and 2 non-alcoholic drinks the bill was $109 USD !! Neither of us had seconds of anything.... Lastly , on check out, the desk clerk or their card reader, defaulted to USD instead of GBP without me knowing until I looked at the receipt which read that I had made the choice - which I didn't. I always had, and this time too, requested that payment be made in GBP as thats more economical and less expensive for me/my card. This caused me to have to pay an additional 80.00 USD in fees. After reading the receipt and bringing this to the clerks attention, they blamed me and my bank for this. They did however issue a credit and they gave me the choice to choose GBP like they should have in the 1st place.

Impressionate e indimenticabile

As 2 older women who wanted the experience of staying in a castle during our trip to Scotland our travel agency set us up for a 3 night stay at Inverlochy Castle June 7-9, 2024. We were disappointed. When we voiced our disappointment and frustration at check out we only got a I'm sorry and felt rushed to complete our check out. First to be put in a room that was not in the castle itself but in the "Garden House" room. Then when we arrived back to the castle after a day out we entered the main Castle to have drinks and to order a meal to have in the cocktail area as we did not have a reservation. When we entered we were questioned if we were even staying there, then we were told we could not order a meal until after 9 pm as they were serving the dinner meals for those who had reservations. We were also ignored on several occasions as we waited to order or drinks. There was also the issue that when we returned to our room that the sliding glass doors were left open on the rear of our room when they cleaned the room. For the amount of money we paid it was very disheartening to say the least. They said we could go to the "PUB" and have a meal there. Well, it was not a pub but an over rated small dining venue that only offered one option for a meal. Again, we were disappointed. I do hope to visit Scotland again in the future with my husband but we WILL NOT BE STAYING AT Inverlochy Castle.

Basically, it's an early 19th century manor house. Not truly a castle. Rooms had nice style but major ceiling cracks, very uncomfortable beds. There are no outlets in the bathroom the size of Manhattan. Very little in amenities except grounds and billard room. Opted for dining room fixed tasting menu. The food was interesting and well prepared but committed without knowing the 150-pound price per person as not on the website. You don't have any option other than the bar sitting room for dinner. One of our party woke up at 4:30 am with bad food poisoning. We had to high tail it to Glasgow, and she spent 2 days recovering. While we can not say definitely, we believe it was likely shellfish in one course. Additionally, most of the staff seemed to be very new to the property. In all way too much money for a mediocre experience.

I'll start by saying the lobby staff were absolutely wonderful and warm, and our room was absolutely beautiful. Beyond that though, I was a bit underwhelmed with our stay, especially considering the prices.
To start, check-in was a bit weird. We were told to park and wait. We waited 10-15 minutes and gave up and went inside. I think they just forgot we were waiting.
We were shown to our room, which was absolutely beautiful. We opted for dinner at the Mary Shaw table, and really liked being able to dine and chat with a group of strangers that quickly became pals for the dinner. At the beginning of each course, the only explanation we got of the food was the title of the dish that was already on our menu. No added detail, no extra flare - despite the potential to explain the ingredients and intent. Likewise, we opted for the wine pairing with each course, and didn't get any sort of intro about any of the wines. Service during this meal was awkward at best.
Overall, I think this would be a better stop to have a cocktail in the beautiful lobby and stroll the grounds. Staying the night just isn't really worth it.

We found it to be extremely subpar. Especially for a hotel that bills itself as 5 star luxury. The service was poor. We pulled up and no one was there to greet us or help with bags. We arrived a bit early and couldn’t check in so when we inquired about lunch the restaurant was booked out for a driving group and we had to eat in the lobby.
When we finally did check in the room was literally awful. We booked the garden room and it was tiny, dark, and dirty. The entire room was so cheaply done. The shower floor was a plastic tray. The “tile” on the wall was plastic. Even the bedside lamps were plastic. The bed was HORRIBLE. Hard and lumpy with a dirty thin cheap cover. We then went for drinks and the waiter didn’t even come over for 30 minutes. We had to literally go get someone. The Wi-Fi is essentially unusable unless you are in the lobby. The “amenities” are cheap lit
We have yet to have the dinner here… but so far this hotel is a TOTAL pass. At least the new addition of the Garden rooms are.

The castle Looks as it s stacked in the 30th. They renovated some parts but these parts don’t fit to the old parts and isn’t modern either. The service is very stiff. The tea has very old fashioned boring tasting toast, jam which taste like the cheapest supermarket. The scones middle class. Totally overpriced. We have been very disappointed. Our next castle for a third of the price has been excellent in food and service so it’s possible.

Inverlochy Castle is a stunning historic hotel offering a unique and peaceful escape. Stepping inside feels like stepping back in time, with grand interiors and beautiful grounds whispering tales of the past. The staff are excellent, providing attentive and friendly service.
If you're seeking a tranquil retreat steeped in history, Inverlochy Castle is perfect. However, it's important to note the serene atmosphere. This might not be ideal for families with young children or those looking for a lively hotel experience.
Overall, a Gem for History Lovers
For a luxurious and peaceful stay steeped in history, Inverlochy Castle is a fantastic choice. Just be mindful of the tranquil atmosphere if you crave a more bustling hotel experience.

This is a truly fabulous luxury hotel. It will be at the higher end of most people's budget but well worth treating yourself.
We joined celebrity Chef Michel Roux Jnr, and he delighted us with a cookery demonstration and 2 fabulous course lunch.
The hotel is located just north of Fort William and would be an ideal stop over for those visiting Glenfinnan, Glen Coe or Fort Augustus and Loch Ness.
